The Thompson School here in Arlington, MA will be running their biennial International Festival. Yes, I had to look that
word up, but I always wanted to know how to say that. Anyway, I am helping with design and graphics and will take this opportunity
to post the flyer with a schedule of events. So without further ado...
Get the BIG 11x17 flyer as a
PDF (14.8 MB), or maybe just a much smaller
JPEG (895 KB).
Or get the 8.5 x 11 flyer - it's a little more printer friendly and the
PDF (7.67 MB) is half the size. Or maybe the
JPEG (696 KB) is more your style.
OK, I confess that I'm pre-occupied with this because I get very annoyed when I try to email someone a 7MB
file and it gets dropped by the mail server.
We've had some wild weather here in Boston recently, but even with all that yesterday was pretty unusual.
We were down to grass in many places after some warm weather and rain. Although there is a pile of dirty snow in my backyard
that's been there since early December. A dirty pile of frozen snow takes on completely different heat transfer characteristics,
I think, because they stay around for a long, long time. But I digress.
Yesterday was a day of snow showers. But these were not your garden variety snowshowers -- these were
basically the equivalent of winter thunderstorms (with snow, though, instead of rain) complete with lightning (hard to see
through the snow) and thunder.
That's pretty unusual and even when the conditions are right, you have to be in the path of one of these very
localized events to experience it. On Sunday, we had three cells go over complete with heavy snow, lightning and thunder.
During the last of these, the sun came out. It was, again, similar to a sun shower, but with snow.
Now, I want to take this moment to tell you that I'm hereby coining the phrase Sun Fall® to refer to this condition. There's probably tens of thousands of other people who have already
done it and quite a few of them are also likely named Dave, but in the off-chance that I'm the first, there you are.
Now, in case that photo wasn't dramatic enough for you, consider this:
Sorry about the subject matter, it was the best I could do under the circumstances. These events do not last
very long, as you might imagine.
