Yesterday it was finally time to go sledding. We were going to go on Sunday, but it was just too cold. The wind was howling
and it was well below freezing out. Yesterday, though, the sun was shining, the air was calm and the temperature was nicely
above freezing - perfect sledding weather. The warm sun even took the ice out of some of the snow making it soft and fun again.
And there was nobody around, really, in this particular park we were in. There were a few people around, but we had the place
mostly to ourselves.
After being towed around in his sled for awhile, Alex finally got motivated to go exploring...
Katherine, on the other hand, was there for the sledding. And she did a lot of it. She was a bit scared at the size of
the hill at first, but we just started partway up the side. She was very nervous the first time down, but within a few seconds
of gliding, she started howling and shrieking. When she got to the bottom, she yelled out at the top of her lungs, "Daddy,
can we do that AGAIN!".
After you take enough pictures, some things become automatic. I was photographing one run when I saw her take a little
jolt. Out of habit, I captured the moment - the sled caught a rut and she flipped over. She was fine, by the way, she wasn't
going very fast when it happened.
The part you forget when you are older and you haven't gone sledding in awhile is how much work it is to get back up
the hill. Luckily, I got to stay up top and hold the sled, so I didn't have much up and down. Poor Katherine had to trudge
up the hill every time. Boy did they sleep well last night.
I don't have a point today, just some tidbits.
First, a typo from a job description:
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or a elated field.
I wish I had a happy major.
Next up, a very interesting service for searching podcasts. It seems the folks over at BBN have hooked up their speech recognition stuff to podcasts and can now offer a searchable index of all the spoken words within
the 'cast itself. That's pretty cool.
Back in the 1970's, a bunch of people thought it was a good idea to make artificial reefs out of old
tires. It turns out now that it was actually a really bad idea.
And lastly, in the spirit of the day, I bring you an interesting podcast I came across, the dead guy hippie shit show. Look for a show that interests you, stick it on your iPod and see what you think. I mean, how can you not try it out
with a name like that?
