The Canalway Cavalcade, of course, right here in Little Venice. I wish they would
just call this thing the Little Venice Festival, or something like that.
Anyway, I don't talk about my neighborhood much, but it is a very beautiful place and contains a number of canals. Consequently,
there is a canal-boat culture in Little Venice that seems to sort of peacefully co-exist with the rest of reality.
So this is the view from the bridge about a street and a half from my house, the Monday of a week ago (sorry, I've been
sick) - the last day of the cavalcade.
It was packed and a lot of fun. There were lots of vendors selling arts and crafts, performances, food and
just plain ol' people watching. This is the view looking back over the main towpath (the South Towpath, specifically).
The blue bridge way in the distance (the Horse-bridge) is where I took the first photo from. It must have
taken Katherine, Alex and I a good half hour to walk the stretch from the bridge to this spot. It was that crowded. That's
a big frustrating with two kids, but it was still a lot of fun.
One of the neat things about the canals is that you can walk the canals to Paddington Station from my house
in, no kidding, under 10 minutes. It basically takes longer by tube. It's very strange. The tube ride from Paddington to Warwick
Avenue (one stop) on the Bakerloo line takes a really long time. The canals offer a cross-city traffic route via the towpaths
(and water, of course) that makes it very fast to walk from one place to another, if you know your way.
Anyway, at Paddington, we encountered this really adorable canal boat.
And I was sick. I was home from work for three days with a flu. I'm still recovering - I still have some chest
and nose congestion, but I'm doing fine and thanks for asking. I have some amusing English products to show you very soon...
